Sports Betting in India: The country must set up a gaming regulator

The latest IPL has seen a huge increase in cricket growth with mobile applications. Repeated advertisements, cricket legends and veterans, have promoted online gaming platforms beyond traditional apps.

However, betting on virtual games is a new trend, and it is gaining momentum in India with millions of addicted to online gambling at the time of the ban.

The mythical sports industry has become a new source of addiction for children with apps that promise lakhs rupees as prizes. Since there is no regulator in India, such applications are in conflict with international law regarding minimum registration years.

Placing casinos in India requires a license and betting on cricket matches is illegal; however, real betting draws on securing private equity funds in India.

India, at present, has no rules governing the online betting and gaming industry. However, with the rapid investment in online games, especially fairy tales, the law is much needed.

Today, teenagers go straight to their cell phones; which is why many of them are presented in fairy tales by friends in schools, colleges and advertisements on television, online. Many end up spending thousands and lakhs of rupees in fairy tales.

The latest trends show a rapid increase in crime as a result of using the internet, especially fairytale games.

The governments of the four provinces of India have taken a decision to ban the use of sports legends in their provinces which has led to the owners of these businesses filing a PIL in court to oppose such a ban.

But the ban, due to a lack of regulation, could kill the industry, which will affect jobs and investment. Therefore, clear rules and policies for the management of the sector should be applied.

The closure of the Covid-19 effect has increased the penetration of virtual gaming platforms in India. In addition, the ban on the application of 200 and Chinese has contributed to the continuation of the style of real sports games.

While outdoor sports such as cricket, football will begin to increase next year, limited seating arrangements and spectator focus on organizers will continue to contribute to the growing demand for visual games.

In a country like India, there is a great need to set up a sports director to monitor, manage and assist the industry.
